An up to date survey of US newspapers finds 360 extra have closed since 2019
The fifth version of Penny Abernathy’s report on native information in the US, launched Wednesday, finds that 360 extra newspapers, nearly all of them weeklies, have closed since 2019.
That’s on high of the two,500 closures since 2004 she documented in earlier reviews. The result’s much more “information deserts” in poorer and rural communities and a rising break up between haves and have-nots in entry to native information.
